1992년-1993년: 일본 나고야대학병원 신경외과에서 Professor Sugita
Scholarship으로 뇌혈관내수술 연수후,
1994년도 단국대학병원 개원시부터 신경외과 전임강사, 조교수, 부교수 및 정교수, 주임교수로 근무
2000년-2001년: 미국 UCLA Medical Center (뇌혈관내수술팀) 방문교수
2001년 11월부터 대한뇌혈관내수술학회 회장.
대한신경외과학회 이사, 학술지 논문교정위원 역임
2009년부터 4년간 신경외과학회 교과서 편찬위원장, 신경외과학 교과서 4판 출간
2013년 세계신경외과학회 간행위원장

1996년 이래 현재까지 단국대학병원 뇌혈관내수술팀 운영
1996년 국내에 뇌혈관내수술의 도입을 위한 연구회를 창립 주관
총무이사로 4년간 실질적 연구회 조직을 이끌었으며 2001년 뇌혈관내수술학회 회장 역임 (이 연구회를 학회로 승격시켜 국내 뇌혈관내수술의 위상을 확립)
과거 개두술을 통한 혈관질환 (뇌동맥류, 뇌동정맥기형, 급성기 뇌혈관 폐쇄,
뇌종양 등) 치료에서 대퇴동맥을 통한 catheter의 치료부위까지의 도달후 혈관
질환을 처리하는 새로운 개념의 이른 도입으로 이 분야에서 의료 선진국의
수준에 버금가는 발전에 기여함.
특히 일본과 중국의 뇌혈관내수술학회와의 활발한 교류로 2000년도에는 중국
상해의과대학에서 신경외과 전문의가 연수를 마치고 갔으며 계속하여 국내,
국외의 관심있는 의학자들에게 fellowship의 기회를 제공함.
2015년 7월 몽골 국립대학에서 몽골 최초로 뇌동맥류, 동정맥기형에 대한 뇌혈관내수술 5례 시행, 이후 전문의 교육

현재 뇌동맥류에 대한 뇌혈관내수술분야에서는 국내는 물론 국외에서 최고수
준의 연구와 업적을 이룸. 매 학기별로 이 분야에 대한 대학원 강좌를 개설하
여 새로운 전문의사 배출 교육에 힘씀.
